Rules of Engagement - Winter 2013 Class
Classroom/Group Expectations & Guidelines for Conduct
Respect the views & opinions of others
Make the classroom a "safe" place to share ideas and thoughts
Be courteous and polite and mindful of others
Be friendly
Never laugh at or make fun of others
Don't interrupt each other
Don't talk/whisper etc. while the instructor is speaking
Give everyone a chance to talk - include not only extroverts, but also introverts in discussions
Be good listeners; communication is key; encourage debate
Participate! Ask questions - get involved!
Try to find the courage to speak up and join in discussions, even if it is hard for you
Keep discussions ON TOPIC
All group members contribute to completion of projects
Group projects require teamwork: work shared equally, and no one left out
Keep up with the assignments – stay on schedule & come prepared
HAVE FUN!
Be willing to accept constructive criticism – be positive & optimistic
Be to class on time
Enter quietly if late
Let your group members know ahead if you won’t be there; come to class if at all possible
Turn off cell phones!
Foster positive student/teacher interactions
Let me know if we need to take a short break part way through the class session
take breaks discreetly (i.e. during group activities)
The small groups may also set up their own rules & expectations for working together in a harmonious fashion. If a group ever feels the need for some outside help with conflict resolution, they should feel free to contact Dr. Dott (but all individuals in the group should come to see me - not just 1 or 2).
