CSIS 496 – Senior Seminar

Seminar Presentation (April 10 - April 24)

·         25% of Final Grade

·         Failure to conduct your presentation on the scheduled date / time will result in a grade of zero for this component of the course grade. Please refer to course policies regarding late work.

·         Seminar Presentation Schedule will be determined by the instructor.

·         Hints for designing your presentation:

o    The purpose of the seminar is to 'teach' the main points you have learned about your topic to the class.

o    A logical way to organize the seminar is to follow the same organization (according to sections / subsections) you have identified in your detailed outline and final written tutorial. Each student will conduct an oral presentation of their topic proposal using MS Powerpoint or other similar presentation software.

o    A printed copy of Powerpoint slides must be handed in to the instructor (printed as 6 slides per page) at the beginning of your presentation.

o    Please refer to these guidelines for conducting presentations.

o    The Penn State Engineering Department has prepared the following 3 presentations to help teach you how to conduct more effective presentations, I highly recommend that you study them (you might want to view them in Note Pages view to see how the author designed them):

1.      Visual Aids

2.      Delivery

3.      Examples of Effective Slides using the Assertion/Evidence Format

o    The instructor will use this form to evaluate your presentation.

o    You can refer to the The Online Writing Center at RPI for even more information on conducting effective presentations.

·         Each student will evaluate each seminar presentation (except their own) using this evaluation form.

·         The order of seminar presentations will be determined by the instructor.

·         Each presentation will be scheduled for 30 minutes unless the student specifically requests more time from the instructor. Such requests must be made prior to the first presentation on April 10. Effective usage of allotted time will be a major component of your presentation grade.
