Thursday - Question of the Day: What can we do to save rare species from the fate of the "Extinction Vortex?"
Powerpoint: "Saving Species"
Readings in Primack
What kinds of human activities are capable of driving species down to very small population sizes?
over-harvesting (fishing, hunting, poaching...)
habitat degradation (pollution...)
habitat destruction & fragmentation
also introduction of invasive exotic species (hard to do, but some means of controlling the invader necessary)
and climate change (e.g. Polar bears - very very hard to do much about this one...)
