Grading

Point Distribution:

• Homework 15%
• Exams (4 incliding final) = 50%
• Labs 30%
• Misc 5%

There will be three tests during the semester.  My current plan is for the final to be considerred test 4.  This may change before the end of the semester, but you will have ample warning if this happens.  Except for extraordinary circumstances, there will be no make-up tests.  For slightly less extraordinary circumstances, (e.g. you get elected governor of California, or have to accept a Nobel prize) I might consider letting you take a test early.  

• You must have a cumulative average of the tests and final greater than 50% to pass this class.

Homework

Homework problems will be listed on the Assignments web page.  Some of the homework problems may be worked out during class time.  There might be occasional reading quizzes in class over the assigned reading for the day.  You will regularly be asked to present example and homework problems to the class.  You must obey the following guidelines on all homework assignments turned in, or potentially lose points:

• Use the "Standard Engineering Form" for homework.
• Homework assignments, due dates and times are listed in the course web site. Solutions should be on engineering paper and follow the “engineering form” (see the course web site for an example). Homework not conforming to this form and difficult to read will be returned without grading. 
• Late homework is penalized 15% per calendar day. 
• To be eligible for a passing grade, you must earn a cumulative average of 50% or more on your homework

Misc

Final Note

The instructor reserves the right to pro-actively change the class schedule and grade distributions during the semester at any time for any reason, if it is determined to be in the best interest of the student(s), the professor, or both.
