From Utah to Canada on two wheels!

In June and July of 2010 I rode my bicycle from Logan, Utah to Waterton, Alberta. My route took me north into Idaho, east into Wyoming, then north and west across the beautiful mountains and valleys of Montana. Eventually I got to Glacier National Park and the Canada border. My dad joined me for the last leg of the trip, where we rode through the park and into Alberta and the Canadian Rockies. My trusty steed was a an all-steel 2010 Raleigh Sojourn that I got a week or two before the trip. I had all my gear and food in front and rear panniers, and my camera in a handlebar bag. A few nights I stayed in hot spring campgrounds, but for the most part I pirate camped in the random public lands that lined my route. I met many wonderful people, ate an absurd amount of food, and enjoyed many fine local brews. Landscapes and skies were amazing throughout. Several afternoons culminated in severe thunderstorms. Occasional 40+ mph winds made for some interesting bicycling conditions. Overall, the trip was ridiculously fun and a great way to spend some free time. Looking forward to many future bike tours!

A few tallies from the trip:

24 days on the road
1255 miles
9 bears
4 hot springs
4 national parks
5 stateline crossings
2 US/Canada border crossings
0 flat tires
several gallons of ice cream

Below are a bunch of photos from the trip. At the very bottom are a couple maps showing my route. If you are reading this because you are a prospective bicycle tourist looking for trip reports, feel free to send me an e-mail and i'll be glad to tell you more about the route, riding conditions, etc. Once I got to Jackson, WY I generally followed the Adventure Cycling Association's 'Great Parks North' route.
