Welcome to the Advising Homepage for my advisees at Fort Lewis College.  My goal is to provide a central location for the information that students will need as they go through the advising and registration process.  Although this page contains as much information as I can put together to help you, a face-to-face meeting is by far the most effective means of advising.  Therefore, I ask that you contact me to make a personal appointment at 247-7481, or email me..

Information to bring with you when you have an advising appointment:

New Rules for Seniors!

Application for Graduation Process Replaces Petition for Graduation

Beginning Fall 2011, students will no longer submit a Petition for Graduation when they reach 80 earned credits. Instead, an Application for Graduation, will be due by Census Date of their final semester (fall or winter). The 80 credit rule for Petitioning was established many years ago. Registrar's Office no longer needs such a long lead time to process student records for graduation, and student behavior suggests that 80 credits is too early to "lock down" graduation dates. In recent years, as many as 20% of the students listed in a graduation program, have not, in fact, completed their required courses by their expected graduation date.
The Application for Graduation form is available as a fillable pdf form on the Registrar's Office website . Click here for a copy.

*Applications should only be submitted after students have registered for all final requirements; allow seven weeks from the Census Date for review.

The Registrar's Office will review the application and notify the student and advisors of the decision within seven weeks from the Census Date. If the application is approved, the student's account will be billed for the graduation fee and the student will be able to participate in the Commencement ceremony12. Students may appeal once if their application is denied. If this appeal is denied, a new application must be submitted in a subsequent semester.
IMPORTANT: Students who have already petitioned for graduation still need to complete an Application for Graduation; however, they will not need to pay another graduation fee.
The timeline is tight for students who plan to graduate at the end of this Fall semester. Students are receiving multiple e-mail communications about the new process plus outreach from their professional staff advisors. It would be very helpful if faculty advisors would also contact their senior advisees to make sure they know about the change. Faculty teaching senior seminars and other 400 level classes
