Last week's Where on Google Earth extra credit challenge was New Orleans, Louisiana. I accepted a number of different observations for its geologic significance - that it was hit and flooded by Hurricane Katrina two years ago; that it is at (or below!) sea level; that it is on the bank of the Mississippi River (or other observations about the river); that it is surrounded by water. I will reply to the e-mails and tell each person who responded what his or her grade on the challenge is.
Answers to this week's Where on Google Earth challenge are due to me by e-mail by next Tuesday (September 11) by 5 pm.

We will be discussing the tectonic history of the western US (and where Colorado's mountains come from). Look at the web sites for Wednesday's class and look for times when mountains appeared here. What was happening elsewhere in the world? Given the possible ways that mountains can form (described in your textbook), which explanations fit our mountains best?
